It’s a good thing you’re trying to learn by ear. I think you asked a similar question a few weeks ago on another thread. If you have any other questions continue on this thread. No reason to start a new thread each time you have a question.

What song are you trying to play ? Someone here is likely able to help you solve your question that way.

I was trying to play this one (starting at 00:08) :

I realised my saxophone was out of tune so the fingering i used before wasnt the correct note anyways
And thanks for the diagram

Im pretty sure the note i was supposed to play was concert D, so I can figure it out now
You take a very unique approach to playing by ear. Rather than playing random notes until you find a match, you press random combinations of keys. It will be more efficient to stick to actual known fingerings since there are far fewer actual fingerings than false fingerings. It’s like playing the crossword with random letters instead of words. Most of those letter combinations won’t make actual words.

As you have discovered, the fingering you posted is not an actual note on sax. I don’t see how it could ever produce a concert D.

I was originally going to play a Bb but pressed the wrong side key

Yes, you pressed side C. And if you pressed the B and A keys with the left hand, then you marked the wrong top key on the diagram. You marked the auxiliary high F key, generally used for altissimo notes.

I can't help but add that what you are doing to 'find' the notes is a very convoluted and ineffective approach to learning the instrument. Why don't you simply learn the fingerings for all the notes in the normal range for the sax, then go from there. That doesn't prevent you learning to play by ear. Learning the fingerings for the notes is a necessary preliminary step. Regardless of whether you play by ear or read music.

I hadn’t noticed that!
