I gotta get this Glazunov Concerto up and running for this Concerto Competition at Governor's School (which starts this Sunday). If I win I get to play it at a Concert with the Band (using the band arrangement of course).

10 Hour practice days gogogogo.

Learning Ibert Concertino for the first time so that I can have lessons on it with James Houlik and Connie Frigo at Wildacres in 2 weeks. Working on Savari's Freischutz Fantasy and Ravel's Piece en forme de Habanera for my part in a faculty recital at the Univ of Alabama-Birmingham summer music camp next week.

Faculty recital repertoire for fall semester will probably include Larsen Holy Roller, Swerts Klonos, Decruck Sonata, Veldhuis Billie, 2nd mvmt of Albright, and a transcription or two. Will tackle Larsen and Swerts this summer since I have more down time than I can handle.:)

Have a good time at Governor's School. My little sister is attending in Pennsylvania for science/biology, starting soon. Really cool opportunity for high school people.

Creston Concerto...I'm trying to fill in gaps in my standard rep before it's time for grad school...I'm going to start getting lots of stuff ready for my senior recital and grad auditions. Klonos, Albright, Platti, Schmitt "Legende", Pascal "Sonatine", Makris, Distances Within Me...Lots of good stuff...Practice time.
Oh...I'm actually trying to become a decent jazz player...That one's tough.
I'm working on Berio's 'Sequenza IXb', the Denisov Sonata, Joe Cutler's 'Urban Myths' and Lauba's 'Balafon' for my FRSM recital in winter. I need another piece to fill my programme though. I'd like it to be with piano really, anything from 3-13mins long... Any suggestions?
This is lightweight in comparison to serious classical players, but I'm preparing "Concertino" by J.B. Singelee, as part of a woodwind recital. This is the sax piece on the program - I'll also play something on flute, Bb, Eb and bass clarinets.
The Singelee piece is not particularly challenging, but it has historical significance as being one of the really early pieces written for saxophone.
I'm currently working on Tableaux, Vocalise and Robert's Rhapsodie for the Gap summer school.

Over the summer I will practicing rep for my final year undergrad; Feld Sonata, Grab It!, Desenclos' Prelude Cadence&Finale, KLONOS, Reuff Sonate, Tomasi Concerto and possibly Albright's Sonata (a tough year to come, but I've started on some it already!)
I'm working on the Maslanka Sonata, von Koch Concerto, Britten Six MEtamorphoses after Ovid, Quate Light of Sothis, Muczynski Sonata, and Worley Sonata. Most of this is for my upcoming junior recital. Some's just summer work.
I'm going to be an undergrad in the fall. I'm going to work on the Lunde Sonata, the Heiden Sonata, and maybe some Tableaux over the summer. I've got most of Glazunov down, but I'll continue to work on that too.

Most importantly, I'll be playing alto. I've been playing almost all bari for all of high school.
Lauba's Balafon
Marais' Les Folies D'Espagne
Shrude's Renewing the Myth
Denisov's Sonata (again)
Martin's Ballade

Always working on Bach too!
Right now I'm working on the Husa Concerto and started looking at Distances Within Me just today.

Tomasi - Concerto
Brahms - Sonata in Eb
Alla - Digital (still... need to memorize it)
Berio - IXb (memorizing)
Berio - Lied
Pascal - Sonatine

It's nice to do some new repertoire after finally finishing my CD last week!

My wife absolutely hates it when saxophonists play this, so this piece will probably never be in my repertoire. I guess I'll have to live vicariously through Steve P!

I actually usually take the summers to just work on fundamentals and problems that I'm having with my playing. Or to work on learning new and different techniques.

But since you always need some lit to keep you sane..... Maros Rabescatura, Sonate by Stefan Thomas, Pythikos Nomos(for wildacres), and Desenclos. I may throw in some more stuff soon depending on my A.D.D.

So how did the recording go Steve?

And can anyone recommend some recordings of Pascal's Sonatine?
Recording went very well. There were some really nice moments, especially in Decruck.

Pascal has been recorded by Fourmeau. I have to tell you though, it is one hard piece! I looked at it and thought it would be no sweat. WRONG!!

Angel... If she hates Brahms on saxophone, than I wont get going on how much I love to play Op. 114!! Or that I do the Martino 'Set for Clarinet' on Alto... :) What can I say? Good rep deserves to be borrowed.

I've been working through Partitia by Erwin Dressel, Six Barefoot Dances by John David Lamb, and Sonata No.6 in G minor by Vivaldi ( to start working on my soprano skills).

I have also been playing a lot of Bach and atonal stuff

Assuming that you are talking about the clarinet sonata #2, I wasn't aware that this has been arranged for sax. I just saw that Rousseau has an arrangement of both the clarinet sonatas for alto sax. Recently I heard this piece performed on flute by Jeffrey Khaner, who has also recorded it. I love the idea that great music is transcribed for other instruments, but I can also understand why some purists have a problem when pieces are played on other instruments.
Coincidentally I'm working on this piece for my woodwind doubling recital, but I'll be playing it on clarinet.
Opcit - Hurel
Sequenza VIIb - Berio
Le Frene Egare - Rosse
Cello Suite No. 6 - Bach
Legende - Schmitt

and messing around with Lauba's Hard a little bit. Probably will start it whenever I finish up with Opcit for now....

And I'm really hoping to work on Anubis et Nout once I have access to a bari again! And maybe Digital...

Too much music, not enough time!
