for solo performances? (of course).

I've had a plan in place for a while, but life has taken a different direction so I haven't pursued it lately.

My plan was Mp3 player into a Roland KC500 that I picked up a few years back, probably not mic the sax, but would be doing some vocals (on occasion) so would have a mic on a stand for a bit of reinforcement. But like I said it hasn't happened yet.

the KC500 is big and heavy, which is a disadvantage, but it is on wheels...;-) and the price was really, really right. ( I got very lucky for once)

Bill, I have two KC500s and they are indeed great amps... until they break. I love them so much that it makes it all the more frustrating that they are very, very prone to developing electronics issues. One of mine just fizzled out on a gig; not one of the three channels works now. The other one works pretty well with all 3 channels, but the direct XLR output almost never works right. I guess what I'm saying is, be careful and be prepared if you're gonna use one of those! I love how they sound and they're very well designed, I just wish they were more durable.

For amplification I have been using a Fender Passport P-150 for the last 9 years.

Lightweight 150 watt great bass response and the speakers, reverb, and mixing board all latch together for easy transport.

I would not hesitate to purchase another.

I got a pair of used TOA speakers that sound fine and so far appear reliable. I went for the Mackie 808s powered mixer. It's a little big and heavy, but has all sorts of power, very good EQ and lots of input and output flexibility. For a small gig, e.g., I can put it in mono and use one speaker for a Front of House speaker and one for a stage monitor. But it can work with up to four stereo FOH speakers and a second amp/mixer + monitor speakers.

It has eight mic/line inputs, and accepts output from a laptop or mp3 player for backing trax.

I like it a lot, so far.

Smokey:

Do you find the ipod interface easy to use on stage?

I'm using an XP laptop and am not totally comfortable with using quicktime, win media player or the VLC media player.

It might be I don't have glasses that work well at the precise distance I end up being from the computer, but it seems I have to go thru way too many clicks.

Hey Bill - It's Chris Tarnowski....yes, Wayne Tarnowski's son. Listen. I have no clue how to help ya' cuz technology frightens me. Unplug everything and just play sax. My theory is that silky smooth sax play will calm this tense world. Well, I can dream, can't I?Just lettin' you know I registered on saxontheweb after I heard my 1 gagillionth customer talk about it. Hope you are well.

Widetrack, the iPhone 3g works great. The display aromatically adjust to the ambient lighting and you can set up multiple playlist as well as have your entire music library on it if you desire. I looked at the iPod but the old iPhone 3G works just fine for my needs. I have 8 second silent tracks between my backing tracks so I can pause the playlist if needed before the next track kicks in. I even have tuning and metronome apps on it. I am using a 25ft mini to rca cable to plug it directly into my K10. I have used it for 3 hours straight without the battery dying, so I do not know how long it would last. I do have an A/C adapter for it just in case.

Hey Chris, nice to see you here, I'm sure Dan Perez mentioned sotw once or twice. I really need to get my tenor up to see you, but time is in short supply... one of these days...;-)
