Yes it's in a font I now regret, it looks a bit like an upside down cartoon boob.
And yes it means hold it for a bit longer, e.g. until you no longer want to hold it or you are told to stop holding it.

OP, this is just a suggestion, but if you don't recognize a fermata (a very common symbol in scores), you might want to obtain some kind of guide to musical notation. This could be a helpful educational tool for you, as well as a source of quick answers when questions like this arise in the future.

Recently, I googled fermata, just to educate myself, especially since none of the marks on the recommended sites by Sax of Phones or Tony51 included the symbol/mark in question. THEN I realized both why I didn’t recognize it AND why Pete now regrets his choice of fonts!
