So today I wrote this song. Its been happening a lot lately and Ive been liking it, but I wake up and a tune pops into my head and Im able to actually record it. hehe. Anyway, this is kind of a first run for this song but the keyboard riff is what started it and the rest just kinda fell into place. the only preset that im using is the drum beats, but the rest i played through a midi controller. i used garageband and the focusrite thingy to plug my mic into. my mic is a senheiser e835. I think I have to go back and readjust some levels. The keys are coming through hotter than I thought I set them at. Otherwise, what do you guys think?

as you guys will probably hear, some runs didnt work out for me so i had to recover as fast as i could. i didnt realize how hard it would be to solo over a half step progression.

Overall I thought it quite nice...lot smoother than something I'd probably come up with. I liked the feel shifting from A section into the bridge harmony, possibilities seemed to "open up" (if you know what I mean).

I'd have probably worked an additional chord somewhere in the A to break up the two-chord thing just a little...I think you're off to a great start with what you have so far.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback Shawn. Yeah, I was having a bit of a hard time bringing together the A and B sections smoothly, so it got to the point where I was like...aaaaaah screw it. Ill just change. Ill still work on something though. Hahaha, and yeah, this is some pretty smooth stuff for sure. Maybe even too smooth for my taste I think. Definitely happened that way moreso by accident. :D

Very fine sax playing with wonderful tone. The piece is fairly long though.

I'd drop the reverb/bounce used in the first half. Very irritating to my ears and such a relief when it stops. Beginning vamp is too long as well. From the bridge it's excellent, but needs to get there sooner. I'd cut 80% of the first half. Nothing that stands out as a major problem in terms of the mix to my ears.

Definitely smooth, but in an in-obnoxious way. Overall feeling is warm and pleasant (like Hawaii?).

I think it's a keeper.

Thanks Wade. Yeah, I was having fun with the reverb/echo there. hehe. I recorded it yesterday because I had just finished setting up the studio so I wanted to check out the acoustics and all. I felt the intro was a bit long and the overall song felt drawn out as well. This is definitely a mix of my influences both past and present. Being in a jam band I guess built up my tolerance for very long songs, so at first I didnt really notice. hehe. ;)

And well, Im not in Hawaii yet, but this is definitely the kind of stuff I write when Im at home...or thinking of home. Soon though, Ill be back. :D
