WESTON DUNWOODY BAXTER, JR., 83, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Best known as an awesome jazz saxophonist, dance band leader, musical contractor, retired attorney, master joke teller, and man with a "wicked" tennis serve. Born in Waycross, GA, on September 16, 1927 to his parents Weston Dunwoody Baxter and Frances Henderson Baxter. Graduated from Medford High School, Medford, MA; Schillinger House nka Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA; and Atlanta Law School, Atlanta, GA. He served as a MU3 in the Navy Band on the USS Pocono in 1946-47 under the flag of Admiral William H. P. Blandy, Commander-in-Chief, Atlantic Fleet. Survivors include: Children Kevin Bryan Baxter of Fairmount, GA; Keith Duane Baxter of Lebanon, TN; and Taylor Leigh Baxter of Lexington, KY; Former wives Wanda Hodges Baxter of Marietta, GA, mother of his three children; and Camille Redfern Baxter of Johns Creek, GA. Wes generously donated his body to the Emory University School of Medicine. His children are planning a "Celebration of Life" party in their Dad's honor in August.
