Tenor, alto, Bb Clarinet, Flute
A music instructor at UC Davis, in N. California, put together a sax quintet along with a bass, piano and drum player. He played several original jazz compositions. Most of the music was written not improvised. The venue was small and not the best for music, an old 1950's vintage meeting hall with a low ceiling. The music was great. There was quite an assortment of styles which made it all the more interesting. If anyone in the Sacramento area hasn't heard of Jacam Manricks you should check him out next time he has a concert. I learned about him when my wife pointed out that he was putting on a History of Jazz lecture/concert. He plays alto mainly but also uses the soprano quite a bit and has a really nice tone on flute. Anyway, I thought I'd pass it along if anyone in the area is interested.
