Well....
When you 'commission' a piece of art/music it generally means you've hired someone to paint/sculpt/compose something for you.
If you are paid a 'commission' you get a portion of monies paid. Think realtors/car salesmen.

I wonder if they meant 'consigned'?

'I can do the Conn for $xxx shipped to xx (it's cross-country, I am in Portland, so I can't do better on shipping). OR...if you are toying with the idea of spending a tad more....I can up the model to something a bit spiffier...such as a Kohlert Bixley, German horn from the '60's...for $xxx shipped.'

I guess if he commissioned a horn, the seller is getting parts together and building a saxophone from pieces. The buyer specifies what he wants and the seller takes metal, forms the bore of the tube, bow and bell, makes a neck, draws the tone holes. Then he solders on posts to the buyer's needs and adds keywork.
Who is George Jacobs and where is his factory?
In one post, it sounded like the seller had different horns for sale.

I've basically asked and hired a SotW member to do up an alto sax for me.
Are you going with "doing one" or "doing it up"? How much more is getting it all the way UP?

I bought a horn that was ordered from the factory sans pads and springs and then done UP - very satisfying. Highly recommended.

I heard only Seven-out-of-Nine of them are good. Did yours assimilate well? And how was the resistance (futile I suppose) :bluewink:?
