For years I have had a weird kind of tinnitus where I hear a recurring clicking sound in my left ear. It seems to get worse when there is lots of sound exposure. Has anyone experienced this?

This is all I could find on the subject online:

I'm wondering if I too have broken bones inside the ear causing this.

I have not checked out your link, but I occasionally get this sort of rhythmic clicking, popping, or ticking sound in my ear. Not sure if it is always in the same ear or not. It does not happen very often but when it does it is pretty annoying. Mine seems to be triggered by sounds, but they do not have to be loud sounds. In fact sometimes it is triggered by very subtle sounds like rustling paper. Just when I start to get concerned it goes away for another several weeks or months.

I get that occasionally as well. I wear earplugs or headphones when practicing, which helps keep the tinnitus down. If you aren't using musician's earplugs you should consider it, saxophones can easily go over the safe level and when playing in a band it's very likely to go way over.

Still get ringing though, usually I don't get the clicking unless I am careless.

it is not so strange, tiunnitus is many things.

I get the clicks (also biased toward the " left side “) but my hissing tinnitus is not in the ear , tinnitus really isn’t there, it’s of and “ In “ the brain.

the clicks come and go and I can go a very long time without experienced them or have them vor days

Besides the tinnitus I also have, I don't have the clicks. But I can make those clicks whenever I want to. It's like flaring your nostrils or wiggling your ears. Strange...

the clicks produced by the tinnitus are different, as the tinnitus itself , they are not the consequence of something moving in you ear/throat/nose they are produced by one’s brain

my clicks “ sound” more metallic than anything that I can produce at will, they even follow a particular rhythm ( clave Cubana like ...with that particular rhythm )

theree is also another possibility for " clicking" which is independent from tinnitus and it is called a " glue ear" or " adhesive otitis ". I have suffered of this for some time after some scuba dives . The glue ear occurs very often after a scuba dive but generally goes away withing few hours but one year, after I returned from my holidays, I had this for months, very annoying (but also very different from the clicking of the tinnitus)

It could be a spasm. When I lie on one side I can hear something that sounds like an irregular pulse (heartbeat). It took me a while to figure out it wasn't my heart. I sometimes get muscles around my eye twitching. This one is somewhere around my ear -I'm not sure exactly.

When I used to run I got a ticking sound in my neck near my ear. I'm not sure what was causing that. I wondered if it was something to do with my jaw. That can click sometimes.

If in doubt, see a doctor!

Yeah, I was wondering if it was you that is "weird" rather than a type of tinnitus. :D
