Folks,

I'm looking around the usual places for a Wah pedal that will work best for the saxophone. I figure I want something that is customizable as these pedals are never really made for the saxophone.

I've done searches on this site but have not found recommendations for the best Wah pedals for the saxophone. Those of you out there using one or those of you who have tried them out, please chime in with your experiences and suggestions. I think I would like to go with the style Wah pedal that has an expression pedal built into it as the "auto wah" isn't what I'm looking to do.

I play mostly rock and try to add a funky flavor to traditional tunes. I'm thinking that this may add a new dimension to my playing. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Now it's really a guitar wah but I like the pedal control.
Keeley's modified Cry Baby Wah -
There's a LED to show when the wah is on and a volume knob so you know how loud you'll be when it is on. With the pedal, you can control the sound... or the level of wah you need. A lot better then any auto wah.

Vox Wah is the best wah for any instrument...they have more flex in the wah because the gear inside the pedal that controls the movement of the footpedal has twice as as many spurs as most wahs. I plan on gettin one soon.

Thanks for the response everyone. I think I'm going to go out and try a few. I'll try to remember to post my findings for anyone else's benefit. I like the idea of using a pedal because I do mostly live performances and the beat doesn't always end up exactly the same all the time.

Wah me?!? Update

Well once again, thanks for all the advice.

I ended up purchasing a used Boss GT6 based on suggestions from other threads. My midi pedal died on me and I decided that for the price of a "new" used midi pedal AND a Wah, I'd be better off trying one of these multi-effects pedals.

While it's made for the guitarist, the GT6 is very versatile and has more than enough effects to keep me happy for a while. The reverb and delays sound good though I haven't had the chance to really tweak this thing out to make it sing. The wah selections and effects are great! It has a few (I think three) basic wah pedal simulators and a few custom setups (allowing you to tweak the settings and frequencies). It also has a couple of auto-wah patches if that's what you want.

On top of that, it has a harmonizer that seems to track well and a whole ton of other stuff (some useful, some useless but all there).

I bought it on Ebay and have yet to really tap into its capabilities. You should be able to find one of these for under $200 on ebay seeing as Boss has discontinued this line in favor of the new GT8 which has a few more bells and whistles.

This appears to be an extremely rugged pedal board as well - nice for the gigging musician.

Anyhow, there's the update I promised. I'll keep you posted if my opinions change over time.
