Dear SOTW-ers,

I am writing you today to ask you to help the Archives & Special Collections at SUNY Fredonia in a grant program. The Archives are host to an extensive collection of materials once owned by legendary twentieth-century saxophonist, Sigurd Rascher. I am currently implementing an audio preservation, digitization and restoration project for the Archives on the historic audio collection, which includes materials on a few different vintage formats. We have been funded through an endowment to this point, but will need additional funds in order to complete the project. Once complete, this digitized repository will draw international attention as a research location for those interested in history and the development of the saxophone as a classical instrument. Rascher was one of the musical greats, and these rare and unique recordings should be preserved and restored, to promote their longevity, but to enable future generations a detailed window of the past.

The project has been featured in a news article on the SUNY Fredonia website, viewable at the link below:

I have submitted an application for the Pepsi Refresh-Everything grant program. Pepsi promotes 1,000 grant applications each month, with the money awarded based on popular vote. In order to win a $50,000 award we need to finish in the top 10. With this money, we will be able to complete this project.

Each person can vote for an idea once per day per project for the entire month of November. We would greatly appreciate it if you could help us out by voting at the link below:

Just click on the link, then click the "Vote for this idea" button on the right-hand side. You will be prompted to create an account. Alternatively, you can sign in with your Facebook account.

You can also vote directly on Facebook using the Pepsi Refresh voting application:

The last alternative is to vote via text. Standard text message rates apply.
Text 103703 to Pepsi (73774)

I am creating a daily mailing list for the month of November. I will send out reminder emails each day with a link to the page for voting. Please let me know if you would like to be added to this mailing list by contacting me at [email protected]

This competition is for those residing in the United States only.

It would be great if you could share this link with your friends, family and colleagues! We need as many votes as possible to be successful in this extremely competitive program. The successful completion of this project will provide the faculty and students of SUNY Fredonia with an invaluable resource for studying the history and development of the classical saxophone.

Thank you,
Melissa Widzinski
