As I wrote in another thread I have one of these in good state, It does need some work though , definitely some adjustment but then, while the tech is at it , he might as well go for a repad job too.

At the moment the upper stack is slow and some keys , like the lower octave key, are not closing properly.

What is the general consensus about restoring this type of horn? Do I need to seek a specialist who has done Leblanc System horns before or could I just have a generalist do it? Doctor Sax says it is not beyhond the scope of any good technician even without previous experience.

I also need to replace all the guard screws (a previous owner has replaced them all with some horrible zinc plated, I think, screws meant for wood) and the left hand thumb-rest, are these available at some source like allied or do I need to scavenge some lesser Vito model for them? Can any of you help with this since allied is not the easiest of the sources to have access to for me from Europe).

Re: Vito Model 35 restauration

Doctor Sax is right.
Even after decades at the workbench I still come across instruments of a design I'm unfamiliar with (particularly when it comes to period restoration work) - and in such cases you sometimes just have to sit back a while and ponder what such-and-such a key does.

alright, so a good " generalist" tech could tackle the task of fixing a special instrument .........how about the parts that I was talking about? Can they still be acquired?

Re: Vito Model 35 restauration

I have my Vito 35 disassembled at bench right now... It is a unique beast... I am considering Jazzmanted's alterations... (extra spring on F# key, removal of portions of long helper arms on RH F E & D keys), they appear simple and effective... Good luck with your build Milandro, let us know of your progress.

well, I won't be conducting any of the restoration myself and I will have someone to do this for me. I am just trying to decide who among the technicians who are available to me could conduct such restoration in the best and most cost effective way , I've also just acquired a Dolnet M70 which I want to have restored .

I have some Kenosha alto guard screws and other bits... This afternoon I will compare a couple Vito/Kenosha parts horns I have to the 35... I have a worn but whole LH thumb rest (white), you could recondition or color it... PM me Milandro if you want any of these...

A model of horn that I don't have in my hoard, but wish that I did.

I guess a 'restauration' is a timely stop at a bistro for wine and cheese...

I dug out this very old thread about my model 35.

If anyone is interested in one of these I have sent it some time ago to Dr.Sax Kim Slava, in the US, he has fixed the horn and is now selling it, on my behalf.

If you are interested get in touch with him at [email protected] and ask about Milandro鈥檚 horn.
