Thanks, not too long, about 4 weeks. In the spring I improved my DAW workflow with templates, expression maps, channel presets, and organized my keys/bass/drums/percussion phrase libraries. The drums are always set up and miked the same so that makes things quicker.

Wow that was awesome! What order did you do things? Dis you layer woodwinds after you did the other parts?

Thanks! First I did the rhythm tracks w/ midi drums, then the woodwinds, then the trombones, and then the trumpets/flugelhorns. Then sax solo, then vocals, and then replaced the midi drums with live drums.

My arrangements I do with my DAW aren't as complex as yours, but that's basically the steps I do- except I've never added real drums because I'm too cheap to hire a real drummer!

Good stuff! I’m on my fourth or fifth virtual big band project right now. I find it’s really pushing my technical development in the a/v realm.

...and it’s been interesting to see how the various horn parts all fit together. While layering each part it can sound pretty weird, until all the parts are done.
