Just thought I'd start a thread/discussion on comparing the vintage selmer soloists vs. the currently made ones..... I will share my thoughts and please feel free to share your own, even if its completely the opposite of mine. :)

I just recently purchased a vintage selmer soloist E for alto and let me say, sooo different from the current ones that selmer makes! In my opinion, I see a huge difference. I don't know if it was the hard rubber that Selmer used to use, but the depth I can get to my sound is completely different from the new soloists. No wonder Kenny Garrett loves these pieces!

Please share your thoughts.

Well Selmer back then actually had some quality control compared to today. On Theo's website he mentions that the modern counterpart has less rollover than the Vintage Long Shank, and the early short shank's had bigger chambers.
