Hi

I would like to know your experience with Brilhart cracks.

Doos a an hairline crack (common with vintage Brilharts) affect playability?

I have an early Carsbad Tonalin tenor with a hairline crack from shank to bore, that playes very well.

I'm curious whether a Tonalin without a crack would play better ?

The crack shouldn't matter unless it is big enough to let air leak out.

If you really like the piece, you should probably get it banded. Would fix the problem going forward.
