Hi all.

I've just came across a brand of saxophones branded as Venus. Anyone have one of these and how do they play ? They offer a kind of metal called the rose brass. Does does that compare to the brass they use for saxes? Please advise.

Regards,
Vincent.

I have repaired Venus flutes and piccolos and they are pretty bad. I think the "rose brass" is just a finish and not the actualy material. Most Venus instruments are made in China.

I've seen a few Venus saxes - they're not bad at all, one of the better brands coming out of China these days.
Rose brass refers ro the addition of extra copper in the brass - also known as red brass. I've seen phosphor-bronze horns sold as red brass too.
It won't make any difference to the tone of the horn.
