Currently playing on a Vandoren V16 T9 hard rubber (tenor) and am looking for something with a thicker, more complex sound. Thinking of getting a Ted Klum Tonamax HR 8*. But I can’t try them anywhere, I’d have to order it online.

Any thoughts on how the V16 compares to the Tonamax?

I've owned both a V16 (6* and 7) and a Ted Klum – but it was an Acoustimer II. I did try a Tonamax (rubber) but found the Acoustimer much more lively than it. Granted, the tips were different sizes: the Acoustimer was a 6* (my preferred tip); the Tonamax was a 7*.

I would describe the difference pretty in the same way you described what you are looking for. The Klums were much more complex – by which I mean they had a much broader tonal palette. They both had an evenness of scale that the V16s lacked. And they both had much sweeter upper registers than the V16s – which I found a bit harsh.
