Not sure if you mean a Meyer Bros or an NYUSA but from my research Original Meyer Bros pieces are going for around $1800 +/- $200 and original NYUSA Meyers are going for $750-$950. These numbers may be slightly high so if anybody else could corroborate that would be great. Good luck! Those old Meyers can be great players.
Yes, I figured it would be less. I had thought about having it opened up, but didn’t want to pursue that if it was better left untouched. Jimmy Jensen took a look at it at the NASA conference last spring and felt as the tip rail is already so thin it would be a challenge to get it opened to maybe a 5 at best.
Yeah, if it ain't for you, I'd just sell it. Not everyone outside the vacuum of SOTW has to have a large tip opening and you'll probably get a few hundred for it as is. No guarantee though, whoever buys it won't wreck it.
I’ve been trying it the last couple days with hard reeds while I’m teaching lessons, and it does play well but the low register could be better. It doesn’t feel particularly amazing from behind the horn but it’s got a nice sweet ring in the sound when I recorded it. Not surprising, it sounded like a Meyer
Well, if you're not hard up for the cash, you could always let a kid use it. I had a Meyer NYUSA alto 5 medium that my son played in grade school. Until of course I found out how much it was worth. Then I got him a bright blue Jody Jazz to take his mind off it.
