Hey guys. I'm new so please forgive me if I post something incorrectly. I urgently need to sell my baritone in order to afford a new tenor and I am trying to figure out what value my horn has.

It plays fine despite needing some minor adjustments, still has 80% of its original lacquer, and has a sn of 397XXX. There is some cosmetic damage such as scratches and small dings in multiple areas. The girl I bought it from (for $850) used it in marching band. I wish I could hang onto it, but my tenor playing pays the bills.

I'd appreciate any help on this and will gladly supply any more info that is needed.

$850 is about tops. If 'minor adjustments' means it currently doesn't speak up and down easily...and the upper and lower bows have dings which are more like significant dents....maybe $700-ish. These are one of those vintage Baris which are basically worth a lot more as a musical instrument than there market value would garner in a sale....

thanks for the response.

minor adjustments meaning there are a couple keys that need slight tweaking. hmmm maybe I misrepresented the condition...if this horn was in fantastic playing condition with large patches of lacquer wearing off, would that increase the value?

Perhaps I should post pictures.

Hi...quick answer...if all it had was minor dinging, and the bows were pretty clean with no significant dents whatsoever, and she played up and down without having to blow thru any leaks; but the lacq was worn and patchy....you could likely get $850-950.

So if she's not like that....start subtracting from there.....

No, you didn't misrepresent...just a matter of how folks interpret one's semantics is all.

After having spent 3 years trying to pen accurate descriptions of horns, I have to observe that what might be 'typical dinging which comes along with a vintage Bari' to one person.... might be 'significant and multiple dents requiring removal' to another....if ya' catch my drift.
