I have a Martin Magna tenor case that came with the horn which is a 1959 vintage. I will be selling the case and searched for some info on price but couldn't find much.

Someone said that vintage cases can sell for as much as $100 to $200 but I don't know whether this case would be in that category.

The case is in tidy condition with no smell. The spring on one of the latches is weak but the latch still works. There is no handle on the end of the case.

How much do you think it is worth?

there are always people who want original cases because they have a collection. But they generally want the perfect original looks since that’s what they want to replace.

You may find someone prepared to pay $100 or even more but you will be chasing a collector who, not only looks for one and likes yours with all its shortcomings ( the whole point of a case for a collector is to make his horn “ perfect” ) ( latch and lack of one handle and by the way the handle that you do have looks like a replacement since it has the two buckles that are meant to replace handles after market)

Everything is possible , after all you only habe one and there may be someone out there with money to spend and a caseless horn

$200 you can get for it providing it is structurally sound. I would agree with others, however, if you have the Magna that goes with it....keep them together (unless you really NEED to come up with $200 fast).

Thanks for your replies. I will think about it.

While keeping everything original might add to sale price, I will also probably be reclocating overseas a couple of times in the next several years so the cost of shipping an extra case would most likely cancel that out.

I can understand keeping things original as I have a minty Conn 10M and case which I am keeping even though the 10M is in a Hiscox case. However something in the Hiscox seems to be affecting the lacquer on the 10M so I will be putting it back in it's original case and use the Hiscox case for the Martin and only putting the 10M in there when taking it out. That's why I wanted to sell the Martin case.
