I bought a Korg TM 40 because I realize I need help with my timing. One question that I have is that the tuner shows that I am playing 1/2 tone below what I actually am playing which is correct for the bflat clarinet. Is it possible to change a setting so that is displays what I actually am playing on the clarinet?
Also, it has red and green lights to show flat, sharp or on tone. It seems difficult to judge as accurate. The harder I blow ( louder) the sharper gets the reading. I wonder does the fact that it thinks I am playing a half tone lower affect the sharp/flat reading?

Using the metronome has been a real change in my progress. I have to go back to the very basic numbers in my book to start from scratch. I never realized I was so far off in my beat/tempo. I started in July, so it is not like I am regressing that far. Hopefully, I will develop my timing quickly given my progress with the scales practice. It is this acknowledgment of the importance of scales and basics or lack thereof that destroyed me as a child in learning the piano.

The tuner should be showing a whole tone difference (two half tones) since a Bb clarinet is two half steps away from concert pitch.

My experience with these tuners is that the fact that your wind instrument is not in concert key does not affect the sharp/flat reading. The tuner has no idea what is considered the key for your instrument, and does not care.

If your tuner is in working order it is accurate. Normally when one blows harder, the instrument plays sharper. You need to adjust your playing so that you an play in tune on every note, both playing quietly and loudly.

You don't need to change the setting. The tuner will show a whole tone difference for each note you are playing, if you are playing in tune. Eventually you will learn what concert pitch is for each note you play, which is a good thing to learn.

You are both correct, obviously, there is a whole tone difference. Doublereeds: I believe I came to the same conclusion as I practiced last night. It seems I have to adjust, ever so slightly, for each note or notes within a range. I am happy you made the comment as it gives me confidence that the tuner is responding correctly and I need to make the adjustment. Right now hard to believe that I will be able move and do everything in sync, but, as I have and am learning practice, practice practice to get the brain and body parts working on auto drive. I have come to the conclusion that practice is the method by which you transfer the execution from the conscious to the subconscious level.
