I ordered a C from an Ebay seller, who looked to be the manufacturer.

I am a little afraid to open it now. I hope nobody has ever played it.
I am thinking of dissembling it to inspect it, and adjust any pads or springs that need it. Cleaning it really well with alcohol.
I really like working on horns, and I was wondering about pads. If I discover any that are installed poorly, can I just melt the glue and move them around a little?
I bought a Kaiser tenor last year, and it was OK. I took some of the keys off to look at the pads and tone holes. I found one kind of rough tone hole. I found a bunch of places where the pads could have been installed flatter. and I am wondering if I should try adjusting those on my new C.

I kind of like the idea of heating all of the keys over an alcohol burner...

Wait 3-4 days and it won't be a "Corona-melody"...
It took longer than that to get to you. It's fine.
Zero cases of person to surface to person transmission.
The 'life of covid' on a surface are highly inoculated samples and. Worse case and are not seen in things like this either.

follow these advise. I recommend rubbing alcohol to clean the parcel , few days kills the virus, the inside has been on the way generally long enough to be dead

I kind of really want a UV light to sterilize it before I play it! I agree that using light to find air leaks is the best diagnostic tool going.
only very very powerful UV can be used, I'd rather use time, a lot of UV is NOT enough

Good advice (the video), but I would quickly use up the sanitization products and gloves that I have on hand doing this, probably overkill.

I got my nerve up and opened the packaging. The sax in its case seem to be fine.
The horn doesn't have any fingerprints on it.

What it does have is a lot of plating and polishing residue on the inside of the horn and the two necks.

I guess my dream of meticulously cleaning a horn will come true yet!

again, leave the stuff waiting for 3 to 5 days, if will take care of itself.

We have acquired a few liters of denatured alcohol nad then we have bleach based products.

Gloves are also reusable. I have quite a bit early on but I am not treating patiens so you can wash your hands inside the gloves (and out) and then use sanitation on gloves.

Based on your questions in the initial post, you're not ready to start working on your saxes yet. The information is all here, so do enough research so you no longer have those questions. Don't misunderstand me. As a do it yourselfer, I have spent many enjoyable hours successfully refurbishing multiple horns. I highly encourage anyone who feels they have the mechanical aptitude to do likewise. Be warned, you're gonna' be spending more than a few bucks on tools also. Good luck!

I inspected it with a light and the keys adjustment and fitment of the pads looks really pretty good!

The sucky part is the tenon fit isn't great. It looks a little tricky to lap that into a good fit.
