A big thank you to lionel for hosting June TOTM. i hope many of you will enjoy the tune i picked for this month. Wayne Shorter's Adam"s Apple. It is kind of a hard bop tune with a little twist and i think encourages some nice bluesy ideas. Here is a link to a file where you will find a mp3 play along (JA) and lead sheets for concert, E flat, and B flat instruments. Please post some of your favorite youtube clips of this tune to get us inspired
Happy tooting to all!

I'm not a big fan of Wayne Shorter (maybe because I've never really loved Weather Report, I should listen again if I still have the same opinion, my tastes have changed a lot with time) but what a tune !
Great choice.
Today I will try to do something.

Great choise! (once considered to pick it for the totm myself).
Absolutely one of my favourite Shorter tunes! Played it a few times live. Hope I find the opportunity to contribute!

This is my first take : https://youtu.be/mMIWdAmEvbc

I'm not confident...
Sounds ok to me and you have posted it on here so that is a confident thing you have done, at least you are "going for it" and I think that is a good thing to do on this style of music, nice 1 Lionelsax.

Thank you IanSax.

I've got a second one, it's quite bad, but anyway I play the game I post it.
Last days I thought the Vandoren mouthpiece was better than my huge Otto Link (alto saxophone), but I think I was wrong.
So this is the version with the vandoren (2nd take : https://youtu.be/fWDtyc-wZPw )

Ok, here goes....I kept things loose and just tried to keep in touch with the spirit of "The New Jersey Flash" Here are four, let me know which group you like best. I've got a mouthpiece battle going on here (mouthpiece 1 and 2) and would love the feedback on which piece has the best sound for this loose stuff or if you can hear a difference in any. Each mouthpiece has two takes...

Mascio, Cool choice. I got in last month on the very last day. I just found out about the TOTM forum on the last day of the June. Looking forward to participating if the coming months.

Lionelsax, I think you sound solid on this tune! I never got the impression that you don't feel "confident" by the way you sound. Looking forward to hearing more takes!

@wcamp; i liked the tone of mp 2 a little better, but you seemed to have better control with mp 1 and the overall presentation with mp 1 for me was a little better. You are getting a nice sound from both pieces.

@wcap

AA 1 : I like the head, the solo is quite original.
AA 2 : original solo too, maybe better than the first, nice effects.
AA 3 : this is my favorite, a lot of tension…
AA 4 : the sound is different, harder reed ? I prefer the other takes.

Thanks for your comments mascio and wcamp !

Loved the take, Lionelsax! Cool that you play bass and guitar, too. I liked the alto and tenor duo...gave a nice texture. Good ideas in your solos.

Thanks for your feedback, too! I just got these two new mouthpieces and am trying to dial them in and get them under control. They are both the same piece, just two different sizes. Keep up the hard work!!

Yes, my feeling as well. Both pieces are new to me but the first is a bit more comfortable. Thanks for taking the time to listen!

mascio: Here's my attempt at Adam's Apple. Using my vintage HR Berg 105/0. Somewhat more strident than my Link, but it seemed appropriate for this tune. A bit of a finger buster for me & hard to match the time, but it's close. Good tune choice for Wayne fans.

Nice job Swaman! Captured a lot of that cool Wayne vibe with odd phrasing stops and starts and a kind of out moving in shape to your lines.
