- 'The Night Has A Thousand Eyes' (Florida no USA 10* - Rico Royal 2) - Latin:

Also recorded two takes with a more straight ahead Swing feel backing, one on the Florida 10* and one on a Berg Larsen 150/2. Will probably post them a bit later this month if the thread needs some filling up, because we don't have much action here currently.
Here is the take on the Berg Larsen 150/2 with a fresh and not yet broken in La Voz medium and a more straight ahead swing backing track. Wanted to go for that late Sonny Rollins vibe, but didn't succeed much in that! It's of course not the mouthpiece, but the player who makes that vibe happening! The slightly too resistant fresh La Voz medium reed on the giant tip Berg also didn't help a lot in getting there!

Also did a take on my normal setup (the Florida no USA 10* Link) with this swing backing that I will post later this month.

Nice variety of ideas, I liked your tone. Nice balance, not too bright but not dark either. Only constructive comment, leaving a little more space might help with phrasing.

Here's quick take short before everybody wants to sleep in the house. I don't like too much songs/tracks with a constant switch between straight and swing 8th (at least not in the impro part, where it stops the flow imo) and didn't quite know what to do with the latin parts. I missed the last chorus, but hey - I know a new standard now and played some tenor in the basement so this was a good evening ...

I liked the angular lines you played, with that classic Link sound it reminded me a bit of Lucky Thompson (who I really enjoy, so that's good!).

Just did some quick and dirty recording for multiple current months TOTM threads.

Fist backing I tried was the chaos one Taragot also used above. Like him I had some issues recognizing what happened in the in my ears overly busy rhythm section egotrip, so it become a one take only mess mostly played by ear! Here it is anyhow:

Nice playing. I liked that you personalized how you phrased the melody. During the improvisation, i felt like if you were more familiar with the song (in terms of comfort level) you could probably open up a little more in terms of taking chances.

I've always felt this is a tune once you get a good comfort level with how it flows it's a real nice one to play over. Like Alone Together or Star Eyes.

Great call Shawn - I was getting into the Desmond version at the beginning of the month.
I recorded a BIAB midi take just for practice, with plans to do one with a proper backing later.
Well that plan fell apart - I just couldn't seem to get anything going today.
There's something about the backing tracks that don't agree with me. Very frustrating.

So here's the (ugh) practice take ...

Here is my take with the same backing as in the above Berg Larsen take, but with my normal setup.

I can do it if you don't get anyone; may just be a little slow replying with feedback at the moment. But can at least select a song and get some materials together. Perhaps either Waltz for Debby or Bye Bye Blackbird (which I'm amazed hasn't been done!)

Thanks for the offer Mrblackbat, it's much appreciated, because we can't keep the TOTM running without hosts. Member Taragot already accepted to host April 2018 and will post the new thread soon, but if it's fine for you I can put you already on the TOTM list for May 2018. Please confirm.

By the way, we already did 'Bye Bye Blackbird as B&I TOTM in >June 2016<.

For those who can't wait (!) to work on a new tune: member guidocrea already did post a new B&I TOTM for April 2018 for 'How Insensitive':
