Hi, does anyone have thread sizes for the different pegs by different stand companies?
So far I know hercules is 3/8"-16 and K&M is M5? What about blayman/valentino/jeanne? Edit: They're m6 / 1/4"-20
It would be helpful to know so that I could maybe get converters...
The Hercules base is definitely preferable for me but the pegs are horrendous...

Not all of the Hercules pegs are the same size either. I bought their alto flute stand figuring I could use the peg on my alto/tenor sax stand and the alto flute peg I believe is 1/4" while the alto/tenor stand takes 3/8" pegs.

Where are you planning to get the adapters from? The only ones I've seen are stainless and I've been unwilling to pay the $6+ for one plus the shipping cost that makes the tiny threaded adapter over $10 total.

I really really wish this information were published, at least in the catalogs.

I also ran across an M10 peg which is visually very close to my 3/8-16 pegs.

As to adapting, you can adapt a stand to take a larger peg size - just drill out and tap. For a smaller peg size you've either got to find a new location (might only be a half inch away from the other one) or do some welding. There is also something called a "rivnut" which is kind of like a pop rivet but with internal threads. You drill the hole, press this insert in, then tighten the bejeezus out of a screw into it, which upsets the far side and keeps the insert permanently retained. Instant high quality internal threads in thin wall sheet metal or tubes.

Adapting pegs isn't so easy - some of them you can just rip the center bolt out and replace with a stud epoxied into place, but on others the center screw has all kind of retaining features for molding the plastic around it and you can't get it out without destroying the peg.

We used Helicoils occasionally to mount snow ski bindings when a mounting hole got stripped out. I'm not looking to go to that much trouble but I figured if there was a place to get an adapter for a reasonable price I'd pick one up to save me the trouble of carrying an extra base instead of just the peg.

yeah the alto flute peg is different... no idea why they can't even standardise within their brand...
