I was just "webbing" around and started to visit some sax related sites I brought up in my mind, addresses that I thought may exist, such as "saxman.com" , "saxtalk.com" or saxforum.com" etc. Some of the addresses I tried brought me to real sites, some others to "under Construcion" pages, and some others to sites that were not related to saxophones, or some weird things, but this one really knocked me off, because I can't understand what is the connection between what I've typed and what I've got! You must see, open your browser and put this address:

and see where you get, then explain me how exactly a search of "frame tent" is related to saxgroup????

One of the blossoming business ventures on the web these days is to buy domains. That way, when someone comes along and wants that domain, they can charge you more than what you'd get from a regular hosting service (godaddy, small orange, etc.). I know of one in particular that pays people to sit around and come up with domain names that someone *might* want to buy someday. One of the big trends right now is www.firstnamelastname.com Just glad my name isn't common enough for someone to have purchased it. Also helps that I bought it almost four years ago, before this was a 'business.'

I had billmecca.com for several years then let it go. I bought it back after hearing a story from another VO guy who cannot get his name.com someone has it, is doing nothing with it, but won't sell it. I didn't want that to happen.

I love the ones that are forwarded to search pages, or domains for sale etc. love used in a sarcastic way.

I don't love any of them!
Once I've been just trying domains to see if they're free, so I started with 999.com and it was obviously taken, then I added another 9, also taken, and so on, untill I reached twenty digits! only nines! and guess what? It was taken too! I gave up and didn't check how many digits are required to find the free domain with nines...
Now tell me, who would possibly want to buy a domain like that???

I actually own the domains of my last name with .net, .us, .info and .cc. But I don't own the .com version. Some distant cousin of mine has been setting on that one for the last ten years. But I use the .net domain for my emails and website.

When my kids tell their teachers that their email addresses are their first names @ their last name plus .net, the teachers rarely believe them. So I end up sending a letter to the school confirming this. But in the end, it's pretty cool.

Yeah, that's cool, but in my case I'm totally toasted about that, there's no way I can ever get my hands on mylastname dot anything, unless I choose one of the weird ugly ones, and the two letters ones such as .cc .cz .am or whatever may sound you good are quite expensive. Some registrars in europe asks for 30 euros a year, while in godaddy you can buy a domain at $9 for 10 years!
My last name is Leyes which in spanish means laws, so you can imagine that all the versions are taken, .com .net .ws .org , etc...
The most annoying part is that leyes.com only redirects to turismo.com, meaning he who bought that domain isn't using it for any related purposes!
I hope till next year when it expires the guy will realize that money he won't get from that particular domain and will release it!

But hey, http://www.enom.cc/ has the domain without the email for $30 USD. You will just have to set the domain to redirect your .cc email to the email box you have now.

Just searched for my last name, and while it didn't give an exact price, the *suggested* bid was just over $11,000. No thanks. It'd be cheaper to change my name to something else.

But I still think $30 for one year is too much for me, I can buy myname and lastname .com for $9 and that's for 10 years!
I just still didn't decide if to buy it or not. I still have time, I'm the only person in the world that has that unique combination of the name and last name, so I don't have to worry about others buying it...
