Anyone else found this to be the case? I have a HR enlightened and the one that comes stock with the Earth and Fire mouthpiece and I've found them both to be considerably more resistant than other ligatures I have in my drawer; even when I move them farther down the reed.

It can only be the ligature's influence upon the reed. I've heard some claim those ligatures don't stay tight so perhaps an over-tightening, to solve this issue, is constricting / stiffling the reed ? ? ?

unless it mechanically imparts some “ movement” moving the reed from its ideal position (this is why we reposition reeds while playing sometimes) there is nothing that a reed can do to the the sound, certainly not in terms of adding or subtracting resistance.

But of course, ligature marketing is based on the opposite notion.

I wish I knew what was being asserted when "resistance" is used in this context.

I think the OP is saying that the reed does not sing freely, even when this lig is optimally fitted.

But it seems also possible that the OP is asserting that the lig fights back when you get close to getting it tight enough to work, even if you put it on the thickest part of the assembly, deep onto the mpc, reed, and table.

viz:

"This lig deadens the reed, slowing and harming the response even when I put it on correctly, and regardless of where it sits on the table" or "I cannot get this lig to tighten down enough to work right without a struggle, even when I move it well on to the back of the table."

"Theo Ligs Resistant

I have found that different pressure plates have a different feel. None resistant but some more of a "Solid" feel vs flexible. That is not a value judgement...just the best I can do at describing the difference. One plate is not better than the other but it does have a different feel.

there are many ways to skin a cat and sometimes whichever way you skin it , the skin comes out the same way

When I had 3 different V 16 vandoren ligatures : S A T , I kept on changing the plates on every saxophone ( I had the plates anyway so I might as well try it, I thought) and never once felt that it made any difference whatsoever (whilst being an outstanding ligature). I settled for the two parallel bars

I have 2 enlightened ligs and I have played them on a number of my HR and metal pieces that they fit on. I have not noticed any resistance on any of the pieces. :dontknow:

I am not sure I understand. Is the ligature " mechanically" resistent or are you saying that the resistance occurs in sound production?
To me if a ligature is resistant, that means it is harder to adjust or tighten.

OTOH, if it feels more resistant to play that's would be because it doesn't fit, is damaged, in a bad position (unlikely) or not tightened enough. The latter is often the case with Rovner fabric ligatures that have not been oiled or with some ligs that maybe the screw is damaged. IME there is nothing about a stock undamaged Theo Wanne ligature which fits the mouthpiece, that could cause any issues. Unless the mouthpiece itself is damaged or warped.

What I mean generally is that I have to push harder when I use the Theo ligatures in order to get a full sound than I do with other ligatures on the same mouthpieces with the same reed. I have tried position the ligature on what I would normally think is the optimal position and also on other spots on the piece.

With the same reed and mouthpiece, if one ligature results in more resistance playing than another, then IMNSHO it is a non-functional ligature. It is not doing its job. Probably the reed is leaking, which is a common source of playing resistance.

Personally, I find the Enlightened ligature to be well made, and esthetically pleasing, but totally unsuited for its intended use - namely to hold the reed firmly on my mouthpiece table. But that's just me. I know lots of people use them, but lots more use Rovners, another ligature I find unsuitable. There's no accounting for taste.

OK, curmudgeon snark over...

The Enlightened ligature that came with my Gaia HR mouthpiece would come off every time I tried to adjust the mouthpiece while it was on the neck cork. It was also a PIA to adjust the swivel plate, as well that the swivel plate is so small that if your reed is just a tad off from being perfectly flat it's not going to play well. I stopped using it about a week after I got it.
