A great teacher I once had put it to me this way. The great players had made so many mistakes during their development that they developed the ability to get out of a bad situation (musically).
I have been trying to count through this passage of "Happy Talk" off of the Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley album. I can't snap my fingers to the beat and come out on the same beat after this section. Yet when I don't analyze it and just listen, it just flows by. What happened here? I know a beat was dropped, I just can't put my finger on it.
I would put a link to the clip but I think I would be breaking some copyright laws.
It's the 4th song on the album and the section in question starts about 48 seconds in and runs for about 25 seconds.
I could post a link if the mediators say it's ok.
