I think I've seen threads wander into this topic every now and then. In your opinion what would you say is the next breed of horn to start reaching astronomical price tags? I'm talking Mark VI, King Super 20, Top Hate/Cane, 28M type prices. Since I wasn't around when any of these horns were new was the price rise for these horns gradually increasing after a certain period, or did the saxophone world wake up one day and poof, these horns all just doubled in value (sorry for not taking into acct the value of the dollar from decades ago, though this has a bit to do with it). So what's going to be the next "vintage" 3000 dollar horn?

Also... I'm not asking this to try and undercut everyone... I don't have the money to do that first off, and second I'm quite happy with my current horns (though I keep browsing the threads on decent bari recommendations).

Given their scarcity, well under 2000 made, and the fact that they are really good instruments, I can't figure why the Leblanc system horns don't sell for more money.

I'm thinking Vintage Yamaha 62's with the Silk Screen logo. The sopranos are already getting into the $3,000 territory.

I'm also surprised that the Keilwerth - Couf's haven't started to take-off - particularly the tenors.

I'm surprised when I see people trying to sell "split-bell keyed" horns for anything at all. It used to be a well-known fact that these horns have a lot of intonation issues. Some of the older Yanagisawas or as mentioned above, the Couf Superba models, will probably start going up in price.

It's getting harder to find good deals on vintage Couf's.

Pretty much every bari seems to be heading to that territory these days.

Someone better tell Harry White. He doesn't seem to have any issues at all with his NA.

I'm obviously not trying hard enough then - need to make a note in my diary, "Must try to play out of tune on on all my vintage saxes, it's expected..." :(

Anyone like to send me their worthless and "hopelessly out of tune, split-bell keyed" horns, to save any more hassle of trying to play in-tune ? Obviously I'll cover the shipping. Just PM me for an address... :D :D

I guess that I was listening more closely than watching, but wasn't he playing a Series I 'Crat?
He was playing an NA. Wildy was playing a Series 1.

Harry White's horn had bell keys on the same side - Wildy and Harry had similar horns - and the other 2 had opposing bell keys. Trust me I took special note of that at the fredonia event.

OK, now just to check if I'm totally out of touch - was Harry's lacquer? Because his most common pub photo shows him with a silver NA. That and the fact that I thought someone on here said he now played a Series I led me to that assumption. I guess I should have looked though.

Whatever it was, he managed to get a few pleasant notes out of it ;)

I'll defer to Charlie's memory. If he said Harry was playing a Series 1, so be it. Chi is right, however. The publicity shots do show an NA.

I noticed you hadn't listed the 10M, 6M's, 30M's, and 26M's. These seem to be getting up there though there does eem to be enough of them to really be getting around. Also, the "The Martin" tenors (original lacquer, etc...) seem to be on their way as well.

Only time will tell. I'm also in agreement the the Leblanc's would be on their way with a littl e more exposure. The older french Vito's (Leblanc) too.
