I've been happy with the M15 that I have used for a couple of years. It has beat out a couple of high priced hand made pieces. But for the heck of it I tryed an M13lyre and the tone is darker and articulation easier than the M 15. Just isn't as loud but I'm getting more a clariet focus and less sax in my clarinet playing so the tone size can change and I'm okay with it. I think I'll recommend it to students also. K

Of the M series, the 13lyre is my favorite, having lots of focus and depth, yet is easy to control. Often the loudness issue can be deceiving. If a mouthpiece has better focus and core it can often project better, allowing it to carry better than the "louder" mouthpiece. The best bet is to play what you can easily control.

That is an issue with some of these. You may need to try a few. The other option- I have heard of some folks who have had a good repairman with a lathe shorten the mouthpiece. I have been told that this works great.

I have a student who has one of the JP model mouthpieces from Dave McClune http://www.mcclunemouthpiece.com/

This is made from the M13 blank. He seems to have made some good improvements on the design.

Depending on how it affects the intonation, a shorter barrel might counter it. Maybe try other M Vandorens, like the M30 that many really like. the M13 is only available as a 13 series mouthpiece, hwich plays flatter than the non-13 versions.

My experience has been the same as yours sink. But I do have another 13 ordered for a student and if its flat I'll send it back. K
