That’s why mouthpieces are so expensive...

Demoing alto pieces with my 8th grade daughter this weekend. Her exclamation when discovering the price of top of the line mouthpieces:

“What? Do they come with John Coltrane’s spit?!?”

Ha ha ha!

That’s what my wife would say if she knew (or cared) who John Coltrane is! Well educated daughter!

Some mouthpiece makers touting “exact replica” would have you believe that - Coltrane, Getz, etc.

...little vials of DNA kept in a vault that they apply to the piece before it's sold...
