I'd like to say a huge thank you to Erik Greiffenhagen.
I sent recently Erik two old Links for refacing and got them back yesterday, and am knocked out by the results.
Both are Early Babbitt pieces, an STM I bought from 10mfan, a much loved and played piece judging by the condition, but the table was all pitted and uneven, and a Tone Edge, which I bought from a dealer here in the UK, which was really stuffy and not clean blowing.
I asked Erik to reface them, and set the tip openings to a 7 (100).
Here is an exert from the email I sent Erik yesterday :-
"Hi Erik
They arrived today, and I've been playing them for the last hour or so.
Well, what can I say?
I am completely blown away! They are absolutely fantastic. The STM is amazing compared to what it was, solid, vibrant, rich. But the real gem is the TE, wow what a transformation, I can't believe it's the same piece. Apart from the cosmetic facelift you've given it, you've also unleashed a real hidden treasure trove of sounds and colours that I didn't think were in there. I bought that piece on a whim and I must admit I was pretty disappointed when I got it, but now, oh boy, what a mouthpiece ...
My only problem now is what do I play ... oh well, I think that's a nice problem ...
My many, many heartfelt thanks to you, and your craftsmanship, I take my hat off to you."
So, I'm very happy as you can tell, and highly recommend Erik's work.
