Hi I'm doing a gig and need to play tequila and low rider. I have found the music and transposed it to alto sax, however, I can't find the improvised bits of these pieces, and however hard I try I cant play them by ear :( I've been spoilt by always having the music now Im stuck. Does anyone have these? If u do, can u please email me at [email protected] I can transpose them if nessersary. Thanx
It's a matter of urgency now :(

Regarding Tequila (I don't know that other tune), can you play the head properly and with authority? If so, you'll be fine. No need to play the exact same solo you hear on the recording. Stick to the pentatonic sound and use some growl or flutter tongue....

Time to get away from sheet music if you want to play R&R, blues, or jazz!

When I first saw this thread, I thought Low Rider doesn't have an improv section. It's just the very simple theme played by the harp & sax. It should be fairly easy to pick those notes out. Then I listened to the cut and there is a brief sax improv at the end of the tune during the fadeout. It's essentially a long held note followed by some pentatonics. I think the secret to this improv is to keep it very simple.

Hey thanks for posting that MMM. I remember the tune now that I played that clip. I hate to repeat myself, but man, malteaser, just sit down with that clip and copy the lick. Even if you've never improvised, you shouldn't need sheet music for that one!
