Hi all,

Again a fantastic video was posted from a famous tenor-battle played in 1979 in The Netherlands at the North Sea Jazz Festival. This time it's a ballad feature for the late great Budd Johnson playing 'Alone Together'.

Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVJwnpCO864

Enjoy this great performance of one of the under-rated hero's of jazz tenor!

And for those who want to see more of this great tenor-battle, check these threads:

EDIT: The songtitle is 'Yesterdays' by Jerome Kern, and not 'Alone Together (thanks saxguy1953!)

Hi Peter- thanks so much man for finding these gems! Actually it the great Budd playing Yesterdays by Jerome Kern, an all time wonderful standard. Absolutely killing playing here by one of the unsung tenor greats.

Who's that on tenor in the background beaming at Budd during his cadenza?

Hi Jeff - Glad you liked it and thanks for the correction on the tittle.

The guy in the back is Arnett Cobb, who also played in this tenor battle. Not able to walk away easily from the stage (because of his crutches) he stayed in the back during the features of the other players. You can see he was enjoying what Budd did and made some backings at the end. Actually he did the same in the FANTASTIC version of 'Laura' featuring Dexter Gordon:
