John Clark, based at Johnny Roadhouse Music in Oxford Road Manchester. There are also two very good ones in Huddersfield, by repute, but John is excellent.

Bradford Woodwind Exchange is excellent by repute. I admit i haven't dealt with them myself. If you search on this forum you will find more info. I believe there is a thread on uk dealers or if you just put bradford in the search box it should come up. They must be closer to you unless my geography is seriously wonky (which is possible! ;) )

If its any help my tutor relies on All Brass and Woodwind in Leeds. They have overhauled his Century which sounds great.
Although I'm not sure what it was like before the overhaul, and he makes my Trevor James sound like a Selmer anyway! Reminds me not to get hung up on kit.:D
Website is http://www.musicshops.tv/

Plus it avoids finding your passport to cross the pennines!!

I concur that Dave at all Brass & woodwind in Leeds is a brilliant player /repairer who can set up "problem " saxes to suit your syle!- he alwasy ahs a range of good horns for sale, and he will also get a selection of a particular model , vintage or new , for you to try , without obligation .

I am in a quandry about whether to get this alto done up or to cut my losses and sell it again.
Sellers description didnt match reality about how it plays or what restoration had been done. In fact I read a thread by RootyTootToot which almost exactly matches my experience - Doh!

Guess I need to get an estimate for work before doing anything so thanks for your replies. I'll probably try Leeds or Bradford as Manchester one looked good but is not open weekends.

Nice to read that, Dave! You know that saying "stupidity loves company"? ;)

It would be interesting to hear you progress on this one. My Conn con is still hiding out under the bed. I'm guessing maybe £200-£250 to get it in really nice playing condition. But the thing is they can be absolutely brilliant horns. So I share your quandry.
