Hey everyone! Here is a review of 3 Syos tenor saxophone mouthpieces - the Jure Pukl, Eddie Rich, and Scott Paddock signature models. Definitely 3 very different pieces - let me know what you think!

Want to win a FREE Syos mouthpiece? Comment on this video or head on over to my Instagram (@davepollackmusic) and comment on the picture about the giveaway saying you are a saxophonist and would want to be entered in the giveaway. In one week I will have the computer randomly select a winner - good luck!

Great comparison. Thanks for posting.
I hear what you mean about feeling most comfortable on the Eddie Rich.
Although to me your tone on the Jure Pukle seems to have more depth, warmth and character to it
as opposed to the Rich that sounded more one dimensional. The Scott Paddock has a powerful and impactful tone but is too bright to my liking.
That said I have to admit that of most of the example audio clips of the Syos
mouthpieces I've heard so far I feel something is missing. As if there is less life in the tone.
Even when played by the signature holder him or herself. But maybe that is only me.
Maybe it is the preconception of a toy coloured plastic syndrome. I don't know. Although I am a plastic Brilhart fanatic myself.
Anyway of these three, and despite of the stuffiness, I prefered your tone on the Pukl.

Thanks for that! I appreciate the feedback. Glad you liked it!

I like the eddie rich the best. First sounded stuffy and the paddock too bright with no body. I picked up the blue piece he uses on alto and for me it was way too bright but Scott plays on a P Mauriet and that balances the sound. you sound great Dave K

Thanks for giving an even comparison. So many people give comparisons but "noodle" around (often great playing) but not necessesarily the best comparison. It's hard to judge some nice subtones on a ballad on one horn/mouthpiece/neck/ligature/klangbogden/etc. to some rocking altissimo funk playing. This example gave us the same tune with all the variables except the mouthpiece the same. Apples to apples. And the giveaway is a big plus of course! Thanks Dave!

Kia ora I go for a brighter sound but you demonstrate that a darker tone can be just as lively and, after all, it is what you do with the sound that matters! I listen to a quite a few of these youtube tutorials and its usually hard to tell one item from another - I think you have a great formular for comparison - same short tunes and beautiful playing!

Man, story of the three bears! One is way too dark (though pretty soulful on the second piece), one is too bright and one is just about right. I also prefer the Eddie Rich, though if it were a little darker that would be ideal.

This is exactly what I am hearing when I listen to their clips, although I have never played a single SYOS. Could this have something to do with the density of the material they use to print the mouthpieces?

I like your sound in the Pure Jukl, but I do not know how much effort are you putting into that mouthpiece to get it sounds well . You says that you felt more comfortable with the Eddie Rich model .In particular I liked the subtone you get with the Pure Jukl and the Eddie Rich. Your tone in the 3 mouthpiece is very rich. What sax were you playing ? Some times some mouthpieces looks like they are more compatibles with some saxophones.
