My SX90R tenor (bought new in 2000) really has trouble with the altissimo range.
My tech went over the horn and said it is perfect.

When I pick up my MkVI the high notes just pop out of the horn (using the same barone hollywood 7* on both.) It really puts a damper on other wise a great sounding horn.

any suggestions?

How much time have you spent with the SX90R? It is a much larger bore than MkVI's and alot of other horns so it takes more air/energy to push those high notes out. Keep working with it. I also found that with my SX90R I had to find alternate altissimo fingerings because the ones that most people can get to speak just didn't work for the horn.

I put my MK VI away when I bought the SX90R and played it for 7 years!
I always assumed it was me, but about 6 mounths ago I pulled out my old MK VI and it just worked no problem! I'm 53 years old been playing since I was a kid and been a pro or semi pro my whole life.

Try another mouthpiece.

I have an SX90R (alto though) and the altissimo is great using the sterling silver neck that came with the horn. Out of curiosity I bought a diamond series neck. To my surprise most of the intonation quirks disapperaed with the new neck. However, the altissimo notes is much more difficult to play compared with my old silver neck. Quite a trade-off and I still haven't decided which neck I like the most.

Apperently, the neck is important for how responsive the altissiomo is, even for necks that have very similar dimensions as for my necks (the material and finish differ of course). Give another neck a try!
