Hi,

I have a silver plated serie II with a serie III neck. I bought it to replace a lacquered one because I like silver plated saxes. It is about 16 years old. The neck seems to make the altissimo play easier. I find the keys sit nicely under my fingers. I have played serie II tenors for the last 25 years and probably won't change. I don't think I can add much more.

Thanks, I just bought one from 1999, pretty close to mint! Looks awesome.
Do you find that yours tarnishes easily?

I play an S2 tenor since 2006. Serial 535xxx puts it's date of manufacture at around 1996. I was given it as a graduation present from my dad who bought the horn a few years before that. I think he was the first is we but I can't be sure.
I love this horn. Plays so evenly up and down and I can get all sorts of tones out of it. I also bought a ref 54 neck which makes the horn a bit darker and adds some resistance. I go through phases of using either neck as my taste changes.
Fwiw I also play a s2 alto which is also stellar but that's another thread!

I know the marketing for these horns is that they are for classical and the s3 is for jazz but that's just marketing. I've played all sorts on this horn from jazz, rock n roll to funk and world and never felt like it is missing anything. It's a killer horn!

Hi Echoes, you mean a Silver-Plated S2 yeah?

I ended up buying one second hand, from 1999. So far I'm in love! I love the sound and the look of it. I moved from an 82Z to the S2 and can't be happier. The 82Z has nothing on it.

Hey snazandmatt, no my horn is clear lacquer which has held up pretty well with only the usual touch points wearing away

I had a sp s2 tenor around 5 years ago. If I remember correctly, s/n was just over 400,000. At that time I had a 5 dig mk6 and a 40k SBA. I found that the s2 was very dull compared to the other 2 lacquered horns. I only had it 6 months. Says it all I think. Altos are a different kettle of fish though.
