As far as I can tell, there are a limited number of ligature designs, basically consisting of variations of the material touching the reed, the surface area of the contact patch, and the direction of the force. You've got rovner-style ligs, metal two-screws, ligs like the FL or optimum that pressure the reed from the top using a metal plate, and then string (klassic) and metal band (oleg).

Has anyone found a difference in sound or feel between similarly-designed ligs? I'd be curious to have someone blind-test an Optimum and an FL, or a Rovner dark and a Rovner light.
