Hi, in this vlog I have played and transcribed a killer break by one of my favorite tenor sax player, Steve Grossman. You will find the notes and the staff on the screen.
This is from "I'm Confessin'" , a 2 tenor record with Harold Land.
I had the pleasure of jamming with Grossman some years ago in Rome, what a player!
Hope you enjoy this vlog. Subscribe to my channel if you like, one episode a week. Bye, Fabrizio

Would you happen to know where that great video of Grossman with the Italian trio went? It was from a TV show in the late 70’s where he played “Like Someone In Love” and some other standards. It was on YouTube but they took it down. His great concept on standards.

@A Greene, Rackety sax and Roundmidnite Thank you!

@Whaler I didn't notice that youtube cut away that video.
Anyway there is a great record called "My second prime", that is a live recording from a concert in italy at La Spezia.
It was released by "Red records", an italian label that released many interesting projects in 90s.
Honestly the audio quality is not that great, but it is one of my favourite Grossman's records.
He was really in good shape on that concert.
On "Gipsy" he made a final cadenza that blows me down every time I listen to it. I will transcribe it one day, I swear!
That record portraits really well his concept, that to me is a syntesis of Rollins, Coltrane, Stitt and him, of course
One of my favourite tenor player, without a doubt

I have every Grossman cd including most of his sideman stuff. I even have some bootlegs at a club called Brown;s in Brooklyn.
A friend and I went to the gig he was playing with a trio I knew. Steve got a little loaded and bugged me to play his horn. Normally I wouldn’t do that but since I’d had a few I played it. It’s when he was playing the Balanced Action with the short shank Dukoff. I’ve always loved that sound.

Wow, that sounds great. Whaler, do you happen to have a discography of Steve's recordings when you own so many of his work? I'm still collecting and don't want to miss anything he did.

Thanks for sharing! Good to see that he's still around in some players' minds!
