Very interesting. I never knew Getz played sop at all: live and learn. I also never heard him with such an electrified band, but do seem to recall that he went through a phase back there somewhere: I didn't pay a lot of attention to what he was doing @1980.

On soprano, he sounds terrific: just like Stan Getz! This is not meant as a flippant remark. It's one more little piece of evidence to support the idea that a strong player sounds like him/her self no matter the axe.

I wonder if there's any youtube footage of Zoot Sims playing soprano. I very much like the album he made playing nothing but soprano. He sounds exactly like Zoot Sims!

I have a Zoot Sims CD of Zoot playing Sop, alto and tenor simultaneously. Actually, the three parts were recorded separately, and he managed to fit the three parts together quite naturally. What talent!

Zoot Sims Plays Soprano, Alto and Tenor. That's an approximation; if that doesn't work for you, let me know and i will dig it out - it's due for another airing anyway as it is brill.
