Although I had to invite myself as the host for the TOTM for september, I'm still honoured :bluewink:

You know those songs that bring back good memories, without being able to pin-point what those memories actually are? This is one of those songs for me.

Here are the files to get you started:

Let's hope you all are back from the summer mode, so we can hear a lot of great contributions.

I'll be doing a version on my Aerophone, since that's the only way I can record right now. (if all goes well that is, because I will have a wisdom tooth pulled this month :| )

Please post links to your favourite versions of this song

And sorry for the early post, but I'll be gone most of the day tommorow.

I'll kick off with a cheat.

Here is a very short clip I recorded some years ago, when I just bought a Bari mouthpiece to go with my cheap Chinese curved sop.

I recorded this in a big woodworking workshop hall, when everyone was gone. Then the phone rang, which was connected to this big factory hall bell. That's the reason why it is such a short clip

That's a nice call, Milachica! Sorry I haven't been around much, I feel bad about not participating but I've also been doing more wind controller stuff than sax lately. Wayne always writes such interesting tunes!

Feel free to participate with your wind controller (which one do you play?). Did you already share wind controller stuff here on SOTW? I'm pretty new to this.

It's whole tone scale palooza lol
Ahh ... it all makes sense to me now !! :bluewink:

Big Horn time again? :)
Yeah ... my back needs more abuse ..

I was thinking that this tune would really lend itself to the sonic gymnastics of the Aerophone ... can't wait !!

I've got a long way to go to refine this down into something more tuneful, and less noisy.
(This one reminds me of my garage band high school days ! )

Normally I'd wait until I had a better handle on things before posting, but in the current spirit of non-contribution, I thought a little "thread filler" couldn't hurt ! :bluewink:

No comment is necessary

Haha.

Not trying to be nice here  but I actually really like the atmosphere you lay down. Fit's the track really well.

To me the only thing that can be really improved is the mix. You sound way too airy and far away. It doesn't match the backing track. With what program do you mix?

Thanks for posting!

Indeed an avant-garde solo! :) I like the ideas you have.
Your tone could be cleaned up a bit. What's your tip-opening/reed strenght?

No no no ... it's the backing track that doesn't match me !

I use Audacity (because it's free) ... I should dial back the reverb - I get carried away (out of boredom), mixing while wearing headphones and not really listening to the big picture. I'm also still afflicted with the beginner trait of "more reverb will hide my mistakes" syndrome !! :bluewink:

If I get a chance to record "The Preacher", I'll mix the sax in dry and see what happens.

With an Aebersold backing I'll usually have the bass and drums mono, and the piano to one side and the sax to the other.
