This is my second time to pick the TOTM ( last year I picked Summertime). Just like the first time I wanted to pick one tune but ended up with something completely different. I selected a tune that most of us know. I you don’t, it’s high time to get acquainted with this great horn player. The song has been played by many before us but it was put on the map by Cannonball Adderley.
This Month Song is going to be “Work Song”. The chords are not that difficult so everyone should be able to get down with it. For those of you who wish for a bigger challenge. Let me ask you to take on the challenge to make less…..I challenge you to make a version with as little notes possible but still attractive and interesting enough to keep listening. Or .. simply enjoy making your own version, Having fun should be the main purpose when posting. Feedback and comment can help us improve and have even more fun.
That being said let me point out that comments I Post will be based on taste and not so much on knowledge of harmonics and stuf.

@IA - Enjoyed that, thank you.

@donnersm - Thank you! This is one of the first tracks that I recall from my earliest days of listening to the saxophone. Love it. You post compelled me to look up the tune at YouTube and I discovered video that I had never before seen: Cannonball Adderley Sextet - Live in '63. Whew...

I just got a nasty message this evening that the office were I do my recordings has been sold, which means that I have to search for a new place. So most probably no new recordings from me in the near future, because playing and recording at home is not an option for me :|.

But I found an old recording of 'Work Song' I did with my old combo 'Bob Session' back in 1999 (recorded in studio De Meerse in Hoofddorp NL). Still played my 1974 Otto Link Early Babbit 8* with a La Voz medium reed in that time. I only played the lead in the intro and closing theme, no tenor solo in this take. You find these solo's: clarinet (1:18), alto (1:57), baritone (2:35), vibes (3:15) and drums (3:55). Still miss that combo (we stopped about 9 years ago)!

Hope to find a place to record a new version soon.
