SOTW TOTM For November 2016 - Tangerine

Thanks To John Kotches for originally asking me to host , no problem its an honour !

I thought it would be nice to get back to a bread and butter swing standard , and inspired by a thread I read on SOTW about phrasing and thinking vocalising - I used to play this with a great rhythmic singer .
The music was written by Victor Schertzinger, the lyrics by Johnny Mercer and there are many great versions..i'll let you find them ! Heres one by the great Paul Desmond..

We also did this tune in the Beginners/Intermediate TOTM exactly three years ago (November 2013) :).

I then recorded it on an 80's Ponzol 120 Super mouthpiece with an enormous baffle and a La Voz medium reed (with some reverb added).

Hope to do a new and fresh take later this month :).

One of my favourites but this is how I like it best.

Gosh, The Hawk. He invented our beloved horn. Period.

It is soooooo nice to hear such a song played like this. Webster is great too, but this I hadn't forgotten.

Great pick! I don't hear this tune played too often, so I'm definitely looking forward to listening to everyone this month. I will also find time to post my own- life has been CRAZY (in a good way) recently.

Scott Hamilton often plays this tune. Here a live version of him recorded in 2012 in the Dutch beach town Zandvoort, with a Dutch trio. The music starts at 1 minute, but the conversation before that is also interesting!

Dave, a very nice pick indeed. It has been one of my favorite tunes for practicing.
In fact I have used it in some sound clips a few years ago to test and compare mouthpieces and reeds.
Here is one of them.

I will try to record a new take later this month.

Tangerine, she is all they claim
With her eyes of night and lips as bright as flame
Tangerine, when she dances by, senoritas stare and caballeros sigh
And I've seen toasts to Tangerine,
Raised in every bar across the Argentine
Yes, she has them all on the run, but her heart belongs to just one
Her heart belongs to Tangerine

[She:] Tangerine, she is all they say
With mascara'd eye and chapeaux by Dache.
Tangerine, with her lips of flame
If the color keeps, Louis Philippe's to blame.
And I've seen clothes on Tangerine
Where the label says "From Macy's Mezzanine".
Yes, she's got the guys in a whirl, but she's only fooling one girl
She's only fooling Tangerine

Anyone know the rest of the "cosmoline" song?
