I recorded Embraceable You last year for a new album of mine. Although I've not had it pressed yet, here's the track. I did not play the melody of the song to avoid paying copyright/publishing so I'll try to post one later this month with the melody, maybe a- Capella or with a play along.
Matt

Here's the recording:
Happy Memorial Day!

The players are:

J.P. Maramba on Bass
Mark Ferber on Drums

Kim - I went to your site to look at your paintings and just had to tell you how impressed I am with your talent! I painted for years as well and really appreciate someone that can yield a brush like that.
Between you and Laurel Moore we have a couple of amazing lady painters here!

Sorry guys for posting something off-subject, I now return you to your regularly scheduled programing..

Tim, thanks, nice take. Is that a band of yours playing behind you? Who are the players? Also, what brand of horn do you play on? Buescher?
Thank you Matt. No real band. It's BIAB believe it or not. The new update is very convincing. My alto set up is a B&S Medusa, MC Gregory 4A20 Master Model & 3 soft Roberto's reeds.

Mascio: Not rough at all. I like the bluesy flavor. Nice control over the altissimo.

Matt: Whoa! that's nice. I'm buying the cd when it comes out.

Wow, this thread is already alive and kicking and screaming.
Thanks Alan!
TJ very nice tone coming there. A tad flat at times but getting really good.......
Matt smoooooth, lovely playing, so listenable, would've liked to be a bit more seduced by the tune coming in and out a bit more, but that's just me..................
Mascio, completely different style again! This one was really seductive! Lovely breathy style and that's NOT a criticism. It really works and makes you just want to kick your shoes off, sigh and find a glass of wine. Not that there's any chance of any wine where I live! When you really start blowing it kind of goes quite smokey. You started with this kind of soft mellow playing, before you really start blowing, it would be lovely to bring that back in and out at times, to vary the colours.
ps. I was the first, but not on sax of course. Not that anyone is counting :) Vocal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4zJjqj7SGY

1st June and already so much to listen to! I still have to learn this tune... just listened to all the takes/ recordings while playing along a bit on guitar- I notice there are plenty of keys to choose from, Eb F G and C I think we've had so far

Matt Otto- this is really nice, I've listened to this several times, I love the oblique quality to it and the Rhodes brings a great colour to this- fantastic band too

TJ- all credit for jumping in so soon- some nice moments in here

Mascio- sounds great, especially the altissimo playing, this seems quite different from your approach on Night and Day, a bit more bluesy, I like it a lot

Laurel- nice vocals and excellent composure in the face of the barking- look forward to hearing your tenor!

Dr Will- thanks for posting that Frank Morgan- I loved that

a few links below for vocal versions, Sarah Vaughan is amazing. There's also an acapella jazz group, I'm usually not so sure about this kind of arrangement but I found this quite beautiful

Well this is a little rough. i find the tune more difficult than what i expected. There are more than a few notes i would like back, but here i am warts and all.

Very soulful sounding. Loved the smooth fast runs up and down (and over top of) the horn.

TJ very nice tone coming there. A tad flat at times but getting really good.......

My tone getting somewhere. My pitch control still needs work [Impnt]

Your vocal scat could be transcribed into a nice solo for one the heavyweights around here. If you don't want to break out your horn, a long distance collaboration with Matt or Hak would something really cool.

Macio, I love your articulation.. good melodies and clear ideas! Laurel, nice vocal version, I love the dogs barking in the back ground on the head out, that cracked me up, no respect! Great scatting too.
Thanks Rolltrane and Matt, TJ, darn those dogs, good practise for an unruly audience though..................

Matt- gorgeous, haunting, beautiful statement man. BTW, you must be hearing something behind the horn on your new piece that I'm not hearing cause this piece sounds wonderful. Refrershing to hear a track with a "real" rhythm section too. Besides the Warne colors, I really hear some Bach like lines, LOL.

Laurel- I really liked your vocal and interpretation. Its good to "jump in the freezing cold water". Your scat chorus had some beautiful Don Byas type obligato lines and melodic embellishments. Excellent take.

Mascio- yeah man, such a soulful rendition, really saying something.

TJ- nice take, good to hear you hanging in there and getting better and better.

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement.

Matt everything you do works for me. Paris Commune has been getting serious air time in my house for a couple of years now, but this take is really special. Like Hakukani, when the album comes out i'm buying.

Laurel, you already know i'm a fan of your singing and you haven't done anything dissuade me here. Wonderful!

Wow... I thought I was on the ball by recording something last night, on the first day of the month! Was hoping to get in before we were all wowed by the great players on this tune. I see I'm too late, lots of great stuff so far. I'll give more thoughtful comments later, but in the meantime here's my meager first take on this tune in an attempt to have an "old school" sound:
