Hello all. I'm looking for individual solo soprano sax pieces, or a published collection if there are any out there. I lean toward the intermediate level, melodic and slower tempo'd side of things (I'm a tone guy, if I were going to be a technical wiz I'd have needed to start decades ago) but I'm pretty much running into a wall on the googles. Any ideas that might fit what I'm looking for? Should I just stick to tenor pieces?

As always any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nice, thanks. I'll go check that out.

Hmmmm... mostly classical I think, but I'm willing to play anything that's got a good melody. Not that it matters, but when I would write tunes for the guitar I almost always wrote in the key of A minor. Not really trained as a songwriter either. Beer may or may not have been involved XD

Hi, welcome.

Sorry, not sure to understand your question. You look for something to play with a band/orchestra, which involves full scores, or just on your own ?

On your own, you can shuffle through all the real books, and pick any standard, ballad, bossa, whatever. Take the Bb transcriptions, and blow. Backing tracks are available from many sources.
Bossa-novas work great on soprano.

There’s a fellow on the forum playing Japanese animé songs on soprano. He could direct you to the right sources. Link below.

From the classic side, you can play most pieces written for clarinet, though you might need to transpose the lowest range up an 8va.
I work on Mozart KV622 for precision and intonation. There are piano reductions on YouTube to play over.
Flute pieces sound great too, though they are in concert key. You can find transcribed scores.

If you want classical a quick Google search for "soprano saxophone repertoire" will give you several lists. Most of them are divided by difficulty. Find a recording on YouTube, Spotify, etc. to see if you like the piece. Then there are several sheet music stores from which to buy the music.

Also, the Classic Sax subforum here used to be very active, so there's loads of information there, too, if you search for it.

While not Sop specific, these are a few of my favorite things, from my early years as a Tenor boy.
The duets are fun, as you can record one part and blow along with the other part.

One of the great adventures as a 14 year old in '61, was going to Schirmer, and picking up music for myself and the school's orchestra and bands.
The best part was meeting musical Ladies of all ages.
