I've tried some inc Legere, my first signature #2 warped at the tip. Fibracell..?? BARI ? I tried both, a lot of others out there too, what do you Sop players like the best ??

Right now my Sop is a Series II and I play a BARI HR .074 or my Metal Hawk #8 mpcs

i've been playing Legere Signature 2s on my Selmer Sop for years now. so much easier. they last a long time. and i can't hear a difference between them and cane when i (home) record. (course, my hearing ain't what it used to be.)

I need a reed that won't dry out on the bandstand because I only play a couple of numbers on sop. Consequently I have used Plasticover and Fibracell. However, I have a new soprano and mouthpiece - the Fibracell just did not work with it so I dug out some Brancher cane reeds I have around which really solved some major issues. Now I'm on the hunt again for a synth that I can use on it. I recently ordered a Hartmann Fibereed 'Onyx' for tenor, so if that works I'll probably try one for sop. I just remembered I also have a Fibereed 'Hemp' that I haven't tried on the new mouthpiece so I'll let you know how it goes. Chances are my experiences won't help you much but you never know.

signature clarinet - played a 2 1/4 for years and left it always on the mpc, never a problem with warping.

So far I like the Legere sound best, I never considered a Clarinet reed..also I like Fibra's they take a little of the crisp edge off the Sop's sound for me.

Please keep the suggestions coming, I look forward to the Hartmann trials too.

Isaxman, I just got my Sop back from major rebuild. So mine feels "new" to me too.. Curious what Sop you got and mpc you are using ??

So glad to not have to deal with cane on soprano anymore.
Very curious as to why? I didn't want to get into this one as I don't play synthetic reeds, but have been playing a ton of soprano with a group I've been in for the last couple of years. Just wondering what the draw for synthetics is, and for soprano in particular.

not that I had any particular trouble adjusting reeds on soprano, but because soprano is 10% of my playing. both I don't care to spend too much time adjusting reeds on it, plus with the sparse time in between playing it, reeds age, change. much simpler to just slap a Legere on it. and to my taste they sound just great on my soprano(s). I've had the same 2 Legeres in my soprano case for 3 or 4 years now.

on tenor, I care more about the subtleties of sound, and I feel the gap from Legere to cane is just a bit wider, so I do spend time adjusting cane reeds, looking for the best sound. although I always carry a Legere in my tenor case too, just in case.

I'm not sure yet. That's why I asked Guto for more about them.
OK Grumps I understand,

..now we need more players to chime in..

Also, I don't think there is a particular draw to Synths regarding Sops..I play all Synths SATB in Vegas, the weather is so dry a wet reed is frustrating at best if you double.

Please list which of the Forestone's you use, I'm also curious your mpc choices and tip size. THX
So for Soprano, I've got a Selmer Classic Metal C*, opened up to a .065. the Forestone black bamboo soft is the only sop synthetic I have. Although I was planning to try their hybrid and Hinoki for sop soon.

I use a Hinoki soft on tenor on a 7 tip. Alto I have a white bamboo 2, black bamboo soft and black bamboo w-blast ms, on a 6 and 7s

harry hartmann reeds exclusively. its been a game changer for me. ive enjoyed most of their cuts/materials and theyre very communicative. the reeds last a while, consistent. vibrant, flexible, and you can work on them.
I am curious which of the hartmann's strength type etc you are using, mpc & horn is always interesting too. FWIW I have two carbon Classics for my Tenor, I play them occasionally and find them to be a very fine reed.
