I'm just getting into this - Sonny Rollins Complete Live at the Village Gate 1962, 6 CDs of the band with Don Cherry, Bob Cranshaw, and Billy Higgins. Sounds seems pretty decent, and there are lots of long takes with extended solos. It's a complete steal at around $20 for the set.

Has anyone else had a listen?

On "St Thomas" I like how Billy Higgins made his drums sound like a whole Calypso Percussion Ensemble. That provided the rhythmic platform for Sonny to explore his tropical style Staccato, spontaneous and creative.
