Yes I heard this yesterday. I saw Sonny play several times, with McCoy, Elvin and others. I ran into him once in a bookstore and we talked for awhile, a really nice down to earth cat. Another great player who will be missed.

Sad news. Sonny had an immediately distinctive sound on alto. The 2 albums he recorded in the mid 1970s Awakening and Waves of Dreams are classic. Great writer too!
