Soinc Circus Bio:
Currently fixated somewhere along the East Coast, Sonic Circus consists of Dana Jessen (bassoon) and Michael Straus (saxophones). Through blind emails and phone calls to composers, along with a sleep deprived attitude and lifestyle, Sonic Circus is slowly building a repertoire. Their combined individual efforts include the premiers of over forty new works with performances at The STONE, Jordan Hall and Kennedy Center along with dozens of appearances at universities and experimental venues. Always looking to collaborate with non-traditional artists and musicians, they will be joined by DJ Dubble8 for the world premier of a firefly in the belly for bassoon, turntables and electronics. Their debut program, consisting of several premieres, will include music by Miljkovic, Swendsen, Spangler, Ter Veldhuis and Bunk.

Guest Artist Bio:
Erik Spangler (a.k.a. DJ Dubble8) is a composer and turntablist whose hybrid soundscapes thrive on a unique blend of experimental and popular influences. Samples from old vinyl records, programmed drum patterns, newly composed acoustic layers, and synthetic sound elements are all subject to live time-bending through digital turntable manipulation. Dubble8's acoustic compositions have been performed across the United States and Canada, by ensembles including the Atlantic Brass Quintet, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, International Contemporary Ensemble, Callithumpian Consort, and the yesaroun' duo. He has performed his own music in solo DJ sets across the United States, at venues ranging from clubs and galleries to university concert halls.

Spangler received a Ph.D. in music composition in 2004 from Harvard University. He currently directs a digital music program at Oasis Middle School, City of Cape Coral Charter Schools, in Cape Coral, FL.

Hope to see some of you at these events,
